O'Brien tempted back by Ireland

ANDY O'Brien could be on the verge of ending his self-imposed international exile.

The Wanderers centre-back, whose consistent performances have made him a key figure at the Reebok, held talks with new Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trappatoni on Tuesday, after which the Italian was optimistic of a positive resolution.

O'Brien is one of three Ireland regulars Trappatoni is hoping to entice back into the fold as he prepares for his first game in charge, against Serbia in Dublin on May 24.

Great season for us Andy. Him and Cahill have been the rock to our defence since January.

A no nonsense defender.
If I have to be critical of him.
I would have to say that sometimes when he has got time to play the ball out ,it still finishs up in row z.

andy, leave the international scene alone, youre not quite good enough and your form will suffer, joey obrien being an example, dont even know how and were he got his injury/injuries but the two coincided. its not as though the republic are a force anymore. there have no chance of qualifying these days.

I was very miffed off when we signed, he was always someone i was happy to see on the opponent's team sheet cos i thought he was a right donkey.

He is a donkey, but he's a million times better than that lunatic Meite....so he'll do for me.

Andy O'Brien is a journeyman plonker. He is a million miles away from the likes of Bergsson, NGotty, Faye, Ben Haim. He tries hard but he's more like Greg Strong! If Bolton want to stay up next season they need better than him in the side.

He's a million miles from Bergsson but hey who isn't? NGotty, Faye, Ben Haim? Please!
Distinctly average money grabbers.
O'Brien is smart,he's sussed out what it takes to become a fans favourite and that is(At BWFC at any rate)100% passion and commitment.

Potentially a Bolton legend in the making in my opinion.

it appears we either love him or hate him, personally its about partnerships and his and cahills work, we have kept a good number of clean sheets and its at the other end were most of the worries lie. i think he's been a very good signing, works hard, defends well, organises well, works well with cahill, i'm happy with him in the short term.

To be fair to Andy OB he has done a good job this year albeit he is probably fortunate to play every week in the absence of any realistic alternatives. At least he has also given us a new song to sing ("... he said to me he's seen the new Pele, Andy OB, Andy OB" etc

However, lets be clear. He is a million miles away from the class of Bergsson, N'Gotty and Ben Haim. He is not particularly quick, is average in the air and has a nose the same size as a BA Concorde !
