Bolton's Buskers Ball is planning a new music session that pays homage to the town's rich musical heritage!

From Sunday, July 30, they will be holding a series of weekly events called 'The Bluesology Sessions' as a tribute to a similarly named set of concerts that took place at The Octagon Theatre in the early 1970s.

The venue will be New Bergeracs on Bank Street, which, when it was the legendary Cromwellian Club, played host to artists such as John Lee Hooker, Spencer Davies and Family.

Buskers Ball supremo Alec Martin said: "We're receiving a lot of interest in this one. Everybody who remembers the original Bluesology will know what a special atmosphere there was, and that's what we hope to recreate.

"Initially the sessions will be for acoustic based performers and anyone is free to get and up and play.

"We hope younger artists will enjoy playing alongside the more established ones in more of a concert setting than your usual open-mike sessions.

"For the first event we have invited several top singer/songwriters from South Manchester's 'Acoustica' scene, so it should be a very interesting day for music fans."

The Bluesology Sessions starts at New Bergeracs, Bank St on Sunday, July 30, at 4pm till late and admission is free.
