Two shoppers had purses stolen
POLICE are urging elderly women shopping in the town centre to be on their guard against thieves after two shoppers had their purses stolen.
The women, who were shopping in Ashburner Street Market, were targeted by thieves who "dipped" into their shopping bags.
The first theft occurred between 11am and 11.30am on Thursday, May 8, as the woman, believed to be in her 70s, did her shopping. The second incident happened between midday and 12.15pm on Tuesday in the same market.
Police say the thief used the same tactic to steal the purse belonging to an 88-year-old woman.
Anyone with information about either of these thefts is asked to call police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
