Woman, 85, rape investigation: Man, 22, arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an 85-year-old woman was attacked in her home in Bolton.
The 22-year-old from Bolton was arrested this morning and remains in police custody for questioning.
The 85-year-old woman was attacked in her home in Smithills some time after 10pm on June 19.
She was locking up for the night when a man forced his way into her house, stabbed her with a kitchen knife then raped her in the kitchen and lounge.
He stole jewellery and fled.
Detectives are still appealing for witnesses and if anyone has any information about the incident or knows the person responsible for the attack please contact Bolton Major Incident Team on 0161 856 2197.
