A Bolton woman put her best foot forward to raise an incredible £4,000 for charity during the Islamic holy month.

Zainab Patel, 49, decided to walk 10,000 steps a day for 30 days whilst fasting to raise vital funds for Palestine.

Zainab, from Deane, raised  a total of £4,136 for the charity, Masjid Alfala.

Zainab said: “Ramadan is a month of sacrifice, a time in which we as Muslims fast and try our hardest to be present and in prayer to be thankful and humble for all we have, whilst understanding our privilege in comparison to our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate in life.

“As you and many others might already be aware of, recent but not new, ongoing events in Palestine are progressing disastrously- with more and more innocent lives lost.

“An issue that I have been passionate about since I can remember, as an avid charity volunteer I do a lot with other organisations when it comes to the Palestinian issue.

“This is what inspired me to do the fundraiser. The month of remembrance, sacrifice and prayer, a month that I would still have food on the table when the sun set, a bed, my family, safety- all whilst the innocent Palestinians have nothing but hope, and strength.

“During Ramadan on two other separate occasions, I have been doing the steps for cancer for the people close to me who have died.

“My son suggested that this year I could do this for Palestine, my daughter helped me set it up, and before you know it, my walk began."
Zainab said the money raised will be used to fund provision, aid, medical care and food.
