TWO men have been charged in connection with anti-terror raids in Bolton.

Omar Altimimi, aged 36, of Lansdowne Road, Tonge Moor, has been charged with four offences under the Terrorism Act 2000, which relate to possessing articles and collecting information which could be used to aid terrorism. He has also been charged with one offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

Yusuf Abdullah, aged 29, of no fixed address, has been charged with one offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act, and one offence under the Theft Act 1968.

Both men were due to appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court in London today.

A police spokesman said: "This operation is not believed to have any connection with the attacks in London a year ago. The fact that the charges were brought on the anniversary is purely coincidence."

Police in Bolton arrested the men following raids on eight properties at Lansdowne Road, Bradford Avenue, Great Lever, and other addresses in Halliwell and Astley Bridge on Tuesday, June 27.

Last Monday, a judge granted Greater Manchester Police an extension to detain the two men for questioning until yesterday.
