I HAVE read that the council has employed marksmen to shoot the pigeon population in Farnworth. These deaths will not result in a reduction in the pigeon population.

The council needs to take a more humane method of population control if it is to succeed.

Has it contacted PICAS (www.picasuk.com) which can advise on how to reduce the pigeon population without resorting to such barbaric methods as shooting them.

The council has acted inappropriately and caused distress to people in Bolton.

Other councils have used bird control methods with success, such as Calderdale MBC, in West Yorkshire.

Shooting 40 birds will make no difference.

The council needs to think again about its pest control strategy.
