THE winter weather was a concern back in January 1976, when more than 500 Bolton Wanderers fans left Bolton’s Trinity Street Station for the Wanderers’ third round FA Cup tie against Fourth Division Brentford. The specially chartered train for the journey was put in doubt after gale force winds caused storm damage on the rail line between London and Crewe. Looking at all the smiling faces on the photograph, it’s clear that the gloomy weather failed to put a dampener on their happy mood.
